FABA™ Information about the carriages

FABA™ vertical systems are always available with 2 carriage variants, i.e. one function with pull release and one with free release. The choice of carriage is therefore suited to the characteristics of the site or possibly to the methods of use favoured by the operator.

Fall arrest carriages with PULL release

The operator using this type of carriage must insert it into the safety rail and connect it directly on the safety harness at the anchor point intended for this (Take care! intermediary lanyards prohibited). When ascending or descending he will apply a horizontal traction by leaning back in the safety harness that he is wearing to allow the movement of the carriage in the rail. In the absence of this pull release the carriage stops in the rail and thus protects the operator from the risks of a fall.

The use of this type of fall-arrest carriage requires the existence of a large enough space for the operator to be able to lean back in the safety harness in order to exert traction. The major advantage with this type of carriage is in the ergonomics of the climbing technique used that has a noticeable minimising effect on the effort it takes to climb the ladder. The main action is carried out by the force of the legs and it thus offers great comfort in use.

Fall arrest carriages with FREE release

This type of carriage requires a climbing technique very close to the ladder. The carriage is simply pulled and moves freely in the safety rail. In the event of a fall this curls into the rail and the stop catch will arrest on the nearest notch.

A large number of site arrangements do not provide enough room and of necessity require a position more or less close up to the ladder when ascending for example caged ladders, manholes etc… In this case carriages WITHOUT traction effort are recommended. The same applies to scenarios where the FABA™ safety rail cannot be positioned centrally but is in a side position with respect to the operator or if a negative addendum modification arises on the whole or a precise point of a FABA™ installation. It must be noted that with the use of carriages without traction effort the climbing technique requires a greater physical effort; the action of the arms being needed noticeably more.
