Tractel® Recommendations for cleaning or disinfecting your fall protection equipment

COVID has brought the need for cleaning workspaces into the forefront of everyone’s mind and it’s no different for fall protection equipment. Tractel® recommends making this year the time you focus on protecting your staff from viruses and diseases. By now we all know the importance of washing your hands, but do you know about cleaning and disinfecting your equipment?

Even outside of a pandemic, cleaning and disinfecting work equipment is still recommended to reduce the transference of more common illnesses. In addition to the basics of staying safe and healthy, here are some tips for cleaning fall protection equipment.

Individual Fall Protection Equipment

Tractel® offers individual kits and bags, so each member of your team is using their own gear. This minimizes the spread of any bacteria and ensures that operators aren’t wearing or touching the surfaces in cases of contamination. The fewer people are sharing equipment, the safer the worksite is for workers. Remember, a healthier workplace is a more efficient workplace!

If multiple employees are using the same equipment, we recommend isolating the products after each use or immediately disinfecting the equipment. Check out these height safety products to find one that suits your needs.

Cleaning and Disinfecting Tractel® Equipment

To clean equipment, carefully wash it with water and mild soap or detergent. Let it dry in a well ventilated area that’s out of the sun. Then store it in a Tractel® bag away from heat or dangers—UV, chemical substances, direct heat sources, etc.  For more information on specific cleaning instructions, refer to the manual that came with the equipment.

For disinfecting this equipment after use, submerge the items—except for the automatic fall arrester—in 140℉ water for 30 minutes. Then let it dry as you would after cleaning it. For automatic fall arresters, use a cleaning solution with ethanol or isopropanol. Make sure you’re using gloves and a mask while disinfecting!
