Identifying and Addressing Confined Space Safety Concerns at Water Treatment Facilities

Water treatment facilities assure the water that reaches homes and commercial installations is safe for consumption. The individuals that work in these essential establishments face a wide variety of hazards and risks during the course of their work. One of the most dangerous being that these employees frequently work in confined spaces.

“5 Myths About Confined Space Safety”

Providing your employees with a safe workplace is your number one priority. It's also your duty under OSHA or Canada Occupational Health & Safety regulations, and failure to comply can lead to hefty fines and penalties.

Best Practices: Protecting Water Treatment Workers in Confined Spaces

Municipal water and sewage facilities are essential for the health and well-being of the community. Dedicated personnel and large, sophisticated machinery work constantly to ensure access to clean water, as well as processing sewage and other wastewater safely.

“Common Hazards of Confined Spaces in Food Processing Facilities”

There are endless potential dangers in every food and beverage manufacturing and storage facility. Well-known safety needs such as infection control, machinery guarding, and fall prevention equipment are usually top-of-mind at food processing facilities. But there's another danger that's not always so familiar, and which requires specialized knowledge and equipment to address.

“Safety in Numbers: Supporting Teams Working in Confined Spaces”

Working in an open area where there's plenty of space to move around is often ideal. But, sometimes, workers have no choice but to enter a confined space to complete a task. It’s extremely risky (and often a violation of safety laws and regulations) for a lone worker to enter a confined space without a well-trained team to assist them.

Confined Space Safety Strategies for Underground Utility Workers

To ensure the power always stays on, utility workers must often enter hidden, difficult to access underground areas out in the field in order to install, repair, or maintain sections of the electrical grid. This is a dangerous proposition.
